American Kennel Club Stud Book, Vol. IV, Part I
January 1 to March 31, 1887
Hardback. 1st edition. 180 pgs.
A PIECE OF HISTORY!!!
There seems to be some sort of glitch and I can't get this listed on ebay so this is a web only exclusive. Though it says Volume IV, this is really the very first Stud Book that was published by the American Kennel Club. Volumes 1, 2, and 3 had been published by the National American Kennel Club before the AKC arranged to take over their stud books. Because this is the first AKC volume, it is highly collectible.

For many breeds, this was the first time they were entered in any stud book! There are some surprise entries, like a Leonberg, a Mexican Hairless, a Russian Setter, several Staghounds, a Toy Terrier and a White English Terrier (separate from Bull Terriers). Ah, the joy of seeing the early AKC classifications when the only Groups were Sporting and Non-Sporting. Why you would have the Irish Terrier in Non-Sporting, but the Fox Terrier in sporting boogles the mind. But, you have to remember that the AKC was in chaos in those years, as you can tell if you read the article. It was still being run as a gentleman's club and those wealthy owners often kept Fox Terriers.
In addition to the usual stud dog entries, they feature a number of "Tabulated Pedigrees." These are pedigree charts for notable dogs. Includes registrations for the following breeds: Basset Hounds, Beagles, Bulldogs, Chesapeake Bay Dogs [Retrievers], Collies, Dachshunds [spelled with a final "e" back then], [Scottish] Deerhounds, Fox Hounds, Greyhounds, Great Danes, Italian Greyhound, Leonbergs, Mastiffs, Mexican Hairless, Newfoundland, Pointers, Poodles, Pugs, Retrievers, Setters (including Cross-Bred, English, Gordon or Black and Tan, Irish and Russian), Spaniels (including Clumber, Field and Cocker, Irish Water, King Charles), Staghounds, St. Bernards, Terriers (including Bedlington, Black and Tan [Manchester], Bull, Dandie Dinmont, Fox, Irish, Scotch [Scottish], Skye, Toy, White English, Yorkshire).
